On July 1st, Andrew Martin of the Chariho Times announced his departure.
Andrew wrote a great valedictory, thanking the people he's met in Charlestown, Richmond and Hopkinton, many of whom became subject of Chariho Times stories. Andrew is relocating to Raleigh, North Carolina.
That includes Tom Ferrio and I, and our start-up of Progressive Charlestown.
Andrew is only 25 and has only been writing for the Chariho Times for three-plus years, but his work reflected a maturity beyond his years.
Charlestown is a complicated place. For such a small town, we have remarkably Byzantine politics, with plots, conspiracies, intrigues and cabals lurking around every corner. To do a good job of covering Charlestown, a reporter should be willing to invest the time and energy to try to understand it.
And to his credit, Andrew did that. I wish him well and hope the next person taking his place will be up to the task.
