Mageau
channels Faux News in full-throated defense of Trump

Did Mageau go back for a refill? |
In
light of the current impeachment proceedings against Trump over his bribery and
extortion of Ukraine to advance his personal ambitions, and to benefit his
Russian patron, Vladimir Putin, I offered a list
of 25 instances where Trump put Russia’s interests ahead of America’s.
I
received no direct responses but on November 27, leading Charlestown Trumpnik
Jim Mageau wrote a letter
to the editor of the Westerly Sun. In it, he defended Trump largely through
attacks on Trump’s accusers.
I
have gone point by point through Mageau’s letter to refute each statement and
claim. Mageau’s words are in regular typeface. My responses are in bold red.

“Beware of wolves in sheep’s clothing, for
they run with the foxes and bark like the hounds” is an old Biblical warning
that is true today.
The dishonest, corrupt
hearings taking place in Washington, D.C., titled the “Impeachment of the
president inquiry,” is evidence of that.
And this letter is evidence that Mageau has
lost the capacity for independent thought, reduced to simply regurgitating Fox
News talking points.
After receiving inside
information from an unidentified “whistleblower,” the Speaker of the
Democrat-controlled House, Nancy Pelosi, made a decision to hold hearings. She
then authorized Rep. Adam Schiff, chairman of the House Committee on Intelligence,
to convene the hearings.
Under LAW,
whistleblowers are protected from retaliation by their superiors by having
their identities kept confidential. Their willingness to come forward and
reveal wrong-doing has saved taxpayers billions of dollars. Trump and GOP
attacks on THIS whistleblower are in violation of long-standing federal law.
Notwithstanding the
fact that Schiff has a well-deserved reputation of being a pathetic liar,
and cheat, Speaker Pelosi chose him anyway. Her decision to do that indicates
that she is no better than he is for permitting the hearings to be held before
his committee.
WHAT “well-deserved reputation?” Based on
what, Jim? As for Pelosi choosing him, Shiff chairs the House Intelligence
Committee. Trump’s bribery and extortion of Ukraine fall under his
jurisdiction.
Even if she had given the task to any one of
the several other committees investigating various Trump crimes, it would not
matter to Republicans. They and Trump have insulted
and demeaned all of them.
Personally, I would have preferred the
recently deceased Rep. Elijah Cummings to head the first round of formal
impeachment hearings, but of course, that’s now impossible. Rep. Cummings
chaired the House Oversight Committee.
His radical left-wing
ideology and his hatred for President Trump has caused him to lose his sense of
fairness, honor, dignity and pride.
This is pure Trumpian logic. Without evidence,
Mageau accuses Shiff of having no “sense of fairness, honor, dignity and pride.”
when the public figure most worthy of such a description is Trump himself.
Haven’t you noticed when Trump insults a person or group, his insults are usually
reflections of his own guilt?
How so, Jim? He presided over hearings where
qualified witnesses testified under oath and were cross-examined by Republican
committee members and staff.
Notwithstanding that,
do [sic] to the diligence of the minority Republican members and their
questioning of his witnesses, Schiff and his Democrat colleagues were unable to
show us that President Trump did anything wrong. On the contrary, each one of
his witnesses admitted under oath that they heard no quid pro quo, no
extortion and no bribery!
You didn’t really watch the hearings, did ya,
Jim? Your claim that “each one of [Schiff’s] witnesses admitted under oath”
they heard nothing, is completely false.
Witness after witness after witness testified
UNDER OATH to Trump’s bribery and extortion of Ukraine for political help on
the 2016 election and the upcoming 2020 election.
They confirmed what Trump himself has already
admitted on Fox and Friends on November 22 and in the official
White House call summary (the so-called "Transcript") of his July 25 phone call with the Ukrainian
president. He has already confessed. But the call was "perfect."
So did his Chief-of-Staff
Mick Mulvaney who said publicly admitted the quid pro quo in an October 17
news conference. Mulvaney also said they do quid pro quo deals all the time and
that we should “get used to it.”
It is shocking to me that you, Jim, a man who
has always proclaimed his patriotism would excuse Trump for asking foreign
governments for help in winning elections. He did it in 2016 and is doing it
again going into the 2020 election.
Jim, as a patriot, how can you condone this
conduct?
But that will not make
any difference!
The Democrats will
still make the unprecedented decision to impeach the president because they
hate him for defeating their candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016. He will then be
acquitted by the Senate.
Unprecedented, Jim? What about Bill Clinton’s
1998 impeachment? Talk about hate… go back and read some of the things
Lindsay Graham said about impeachment during Clinton’s impeachment and what
Graham is saying now.
Yeah, Trump might be acquitted by the
Republican majority in the Senate if they decide to put party above country,
but we have a ways to go before that vote. Every day brings new revelations of
Trump wrong-doing. Maybe just maybe there might be some Republicans who will do
the right thing.
In the 2020 elections
President Trump will win reelection by a landslide, the Republicans will win
back control of the House of Representatives and continue to control the
Senate.
The Democrats will
then blame their defeat on Russian/Ukraine interference.
Wishful thinking, Jim, that Trump will be
re-elected. But if he is, you can be pretty sure Russia and perhaps other
foreign governments had a hand in it.
Foreign interference has already started for the 2020 election. Senate Republican leader “Moscow Mitch” McConnell is blocking all legislation aimed at giving state and local election officials help in blocking it.
