CCA WRONG on Beach Committee

So what else is new?

The Charlestown Citizens Alliance sent out an e-mail last Saturday (June 25) that might give its “vast” readership the impression that the Ad Hoc Beach Facilities Committee had been disbanded and then replaced with an entirely new committee. They also gave a very mixed up story about one of the Commission members.

This is what the CCA sent out: One member of the disbanded Ad Hoc Beach Committee will not to be seated on the newly appointed Ad Hoc Beach Committee at this time. This is not a recusal, in the abundance of caution so that the project may proceed smoothly, she will not be on the committee at all, nor will be attending any of the meetings until after the RFP process in connection with the survey/engineering has passed.  This also has nothing to do with building or construction.”

That’s not true.

The same committee that put the plan together for new beach facilities – the plan voters approved on June 6 – was re-appointed to see the project through to completion. And that’s obviously a good thing.

One member of the original committee decided not to immediately join the newly re-appointed committee to allow her husband the option to bid on the job without even the appearance of a conflict of interest. She will be re-appointed after this first phase has been completed and the survey/engineering firm has been hired.  This is just a temporary delay in her re-appointment.
