Socially Conscious K & S Pizza Expands to Offer Fresh, Local Seafood

Everyone's dream - pizza without guilt. And now, even more!

Pizza is one of those guilty pleasures that makes life worth living. Now, I’m glad to see, we have a Charlestown pizza palace that is dedicated to reducing some of that guilt with a menu serving up local food from local sources.

K&S Pizza on Route 112 is celebrating its 25th Anniversary this year For a while now, they’ve featured local ingredients such as mixed greens, spinach, potatoes, tomatoes, peppers and onions raised on neighboring farms.

Starting Friday, July 1st and continuing through Labor Day weekend, K & S will introduce the Seafood Shack featuring the freshest local seafood and people’s favorites such as lobsters, scallops, clam cakes, chowder, fish and chips and stuffies, all available at a very reasonable cost – like lobster dinners for only $11.99!  Many of the fresh, local items will be provided by The Local Catch, Inc., a small-scale local seafood purveyor owned and run by Charlestown’s Ann and Richard Cook.

The Cooks are the founders of The Local Catch, Inc., a fisherman-run seafood processing, wholesale, and distribution company marketing Rhode Island-caught seafood to Rhode Island and eastern Connecticut. In addition, to what they catch themselves, they purchase seafood from a network of other Rhode Island fishermen. The mission of Local Catch, Inc. is to make fresh, local seafood available to Rhode Island consumers through direct sales to restaurants, farm markets, and a community-supported fishery (CSF) program.

“What makes us unique is our commitment to support local purveyors and farmers,” said K & S owner Louby Sukkar. “Not only do we raise the quality of our food, but we help stimulate the local economy.  Many of my customers have experienced recent financial hardships.  I feel that it is socially and economically responsible to obtain as many local ingredients as possible when preparing my food.”

The new Seafood Shack will have a newly renovated outdoor seating area landscaped by the local company Earth Works. And you can get delivery, not just of pizza and other regular menu items, but of the new seafood dishes, too.
