Five Things To Do in Charlestown - July 1 through July 5

It will be a gorgeous holiday weekend! Just smile through the likely rain storm on Sunday and chance of rain on Monday. If you're a full-time resident make a point of being nice and giving a smile to a vacationing visitor, even if they drive in at the exit of the Mini Super. (Can you tell that I've had my full ration of caffeine this morning?)

Here are my recommendations for the weekend and beyond.

  • Grill some Saugy dogs! Pick up some chowda and clamcakes to go with them.
  • Go see some fireworks! Sunday off of Narragansett Town Beach (launched from a barge in the water), Monday on Atlantic Avenue in Misquamicut and Old Mountain Field at 875 Kingston Road in Wakefield.
  • Take a nature walk! Or two. The Kettle Pond Visitor Center (50 Bend Road) has two great ones planned: Friday at 3 pm to learn about common plants in the area and Saturday at 11 am to learn about vernal pools. (More info in our calendar.)
  • Go to a farmers' market! You already know about the ones on Friday morning and Saturday. But next Tuesday will see the first afternoon/evening market sponsored by The Charlestown Land Trust. It will be held in Falcone Field, on Falcone Lane across from the former Tim Horton's and behind Kingston Pizza. (More info in our calendar. Interestingly, Google Maps misspells the street Falone Ln. I have reported it as an error.)

Looking ahead, the Kelly Miller Circus starts next Friday, July 8, in Ninigret Park. Schedule and ticket purchase info available here.
