Things To Do in Charlestown - July 20 through July 26

Meet a famous bear!

See a musical!

Go to a concert! Or Two!

Run away to the circus!

Read on for our recommendations for the next week.

  • The Tony® award-winning musical Hairspray starts at Theatre By the Sea with preview showings July 20 and 21 and the Opening Night on Friday, July 22. Marylou Butler attended rehearsals and wrote interesting articles here and here.
  • The Smokey Bear Parade takes place on Thursday, July 21. Smokey will arrive at the Charlestown Beach parking lot around 5:30 pm for photo opportunities with children. Don't miss his arrival escorted by local volunteer fighters and their trucks. If you live or are visiting near Charlestown Beach Road you will hear the sirens of the parade of trucks. At least come out to give a wave! More information here.
  • On Friday, July 22, at 7 pm the Cross' Mills Public Library will feature the Baker Brothers Trio with a Tribute to Wes Montgomery. This is part of the library's Summer Concert Series.
  • On Sunday, July 24, the wildly popular Ninigret Summer Concert Series continues with Johnny Nicholas Blues All-Stars, starting at 5:30 pm.
  • You have seen the signs around town - Circus Smirkus comes to the Washington County Fairground Monday and Tuesday, July 25 and 26, with shows at 1 and 6 pm. More information here.
  • Those visiting town will like to know that we have these Farmers' Markets scheduled: Friday from 9 am until noon at the Cross' Mills Public Library and Saturday from 9 am until 1 pm at the Cross Mills Farmers' Market property across from the fire station under construction.

As usual, links are provided in the this article and we have more information and more events in our Events Calendar.
