Friendly Advice to the Planning Commission

BUSTED! Illegal in Charlestown
At the Wednesday night Town Council meeting, the Council took the first step toward a permanent, total ban on wind energy in town by voting to hold a public hearing on this total ban at the September 12 Town Council meeting.

Planning Commissar Ruth Platner (and CCA leader)and the two CCA Council members (President Tom Gentz and Vice-President Dan Slattery) say this total ban is necessary to "buy time" for the Planning Commission to write an ordinance just for residential wind energy.

Until they write that ordinance, all devices that convert wind into electricity are illegal. And we're not just talking wind turbines. If you have a little weather station that has a wind gauge - that's illegal. Anything that converts wind into energy is illegal.

But the Planning Commission is going to fix this quickly. They say. Based on past performance, the term "quickly" and "ordinance" are two words that do not go together in the Charlestown Planning Commission. Unless you measure time in geological terms.

The Planning Commission's deliberative process is a lot like the video on the next page....
