Another pol busted for behaving badly

Carnevale
Johnston Dem charged with two counts of sexual assault
By Will Collette

State Rep. John Carnevale (D-Johnston) has been indicted by a grand jury of two counts of sexual assault, one for first degree and one for second degree sexual assault as well as a third charge of assault with the intent to commit sexual assault. The Associated Press reports the charges stem from a July 28 incident in Johnston.

Carnevale is a retired Providence police office on a disability pension.

GoLocalProv reports that this is just the latest in a string of arrests of Carnevale for violent crimes. In 2004, he was arrested by North Kingstown police for assaulting his ex-wife. That was, according to GoLocal, his third arrest in five years.

They also noted that in each of those four arrests, the charges were either dismissed or he was found not guilty. In this, his fifth arrest, the law states that he is innocent until proven guilty.

Dan Gordon
This afternoon, Rep. Dan Gordon (R-Portsmouth) commented that he had no comment on Carnevale's indictment, other than to say that he is "awaiting the Speaker, Governor, Rep. Newberry, and Rep. Edwards to call for Rep. Carnevale to resign his office. Will Brian Newberry take to the airwaves and declare to Carnevale's constituents that 'he is no longer able to represent them' and that he will personally 'recruit and find someone to primary him?' Will John Edwards solicit petition signatures asking for Carnevale to step down, and present them to the Speaker? After all, these were the actions taken against me regarding old traffic violations that were subsequently dismissed.....If these things do not occur, it is proof positive of the culture of favoritism and cronyism in the State House."

Very classy "no comment" from Rep. Dan Gordon, who in addition to being found guilty and doing jail time for violent crimes against women, blamed war wounds he received in Iraq, when the Marine Corps says he was never in Iraq and never had any war wounds.
