A glorious day for the 6th annual Penguin Plunge

Clear skies and good turnout of folks "Freezin' for a Reason"

By Linda Felaco

For the sixth year in a row, crowds gathered at the Andrea Hotel in Misquamicut on New Year's Day to watch their friends and neighbors dive into the icy surf to raise money for the WARM Center of Westerly

This was our third time there, and it was the largest number of people we'd ever seen take the plunge. The water this year was a balmy 50 degrees. Brr.

In fact, once they were in, some folks didn't seem to want to come out. But they're "Freezin' for a Reason." This year's event raised over $11,000 for the WARM Center, which provides care and services for the hungry and homeless in our area.
