Charlestown Parks and Recreation is holding a free disc golf clinic for boys and girls age 9-14 yrs on Sunday, May 20^th from 1:00-3:00 pm at Ninigret Park. 

Disc golf is played much like traditional golf.  Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee.  This clinic will focus on teaching children the fundamentals of the amazing sport of disc golf, including putting, the approach and driving! 

This program is free; however, pre-registration is required.  Please call Charlestown Parks and Recreation at 364-1222 to register or email recreation@charlestownri.org.  Space is limited, so be sure to register early.

Ninigret Park has an 18 hole disc golf course, located on the picnic side of the swimming pond. Each hole on the disc golf course has three tees: blue for experts, white for intermediate players, and red for beginners.  The course is 6,580 feet long from the expert tee, and 3,588 feet long from the novice tee. 

A golf disc is thrown from a tee area to a target, which is the "hole".  As a player progresses down the fairway, he or she must make each consecutive shot from the spot where the previous throw has landed.  Finally, the "putt" lands in the basket and the hole is completed.  The object is to complete each hole with the fewest number of throws.

The Ningret disc golf course is open to the public free of charge year round.   A course map is available on the Town of Charlestown website (www.charlestownri.org).
