Reuse Sale Rescheduled for June 9 & 10

PROVIDENCE — With a wet weekend expected for June 2 and 3, the ecoRI Newes staff decided to postpone our annual fundraiser for a week. The Reuse Sale now will be held June 9 and 10 at 111 Hope St. from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.

The fundraiser will feature a variety of reading material, including cookbooks, healthy-living books, novels and sports books; antiques; vinyl records; stero equipment; sports collectibles and memorabilia, including bobbleheads, and MLB, NHL, NBA and NFL cards; children and adult clothing; furniture; gardening supplies; household items; kitchenware; do-it-yourself rain barrels and composters; kids games and puzzles; pictures and paintings; space heaters; electronics; jewelry; and plenty of oddball stuff, such as Napoleon Dynamite figurines, old board games and cool knickknacks.

Also, if you are in need of an organic concoction to help your lawn stay green and your plants grow, next week's Reuse Sale will have just what you need. Our miracle grow is inexpensive, has already been used and won't harm the environment. In fact, it does the planet good.

The food scraps we’ve collected for the past year at local farmers markets has been cooked to perfection by ecoRI composting guru Michael Bradlee of Earth Appliance. We will be selling this compost and Bradlee's own compost tea concentrate called "From Me To You, Compost Tea Concentrate" — made by soaking or steeping compost in water, which then can be used for either a foliar application (sprayed on leaves) or applied directly to soil. Both are all-nautral fertilizers.

For those looking for plants, Bradlee will be selling seedlings he started growing in April atFrey Florist & Greenhouse in the city’s Smith Hill district. Plants for sale will include lettuce, kale, collard greens, swiss chard, peppers, tomatoes, zucchini, New England pie pumpkins,and herbs such as basil, thyme, parsley and oregano.

Stop by and enjoy a cup of coffee with the ecoRI News staff, talk shop with composting guru Bradlee and snack on some delicious baked goods.

In an effort to find homes for some of the state’s unwanted items and help Rhode Islanders free up space in their basements, attics, sheds and garages, ecoRI News also is still accepting dontions for the Reuse Sale. If you would like to donate items to this ecoRI News fundraiser, there are two ways to do so:

Donated items are tax deductible and ecoRI News will provide you with a receipt.
