More of everything at the Charlestown Farmers' Market

A successful Charlestown farm at the market
The opening day of the Charlestown Land Trust Farmers' Market is this Friday, June 22.

Our favorite vendors from last year will be there plus some great new ones and some exciting events to give you more reason to attend every week.

We love supporting our local farms and other vendors so you're likely to see your faithful Progressive Charlestown staff there often. Read on for some details on what to expect when you visit.

By now everyone has seen the signs along Old Post Road announcing the new location, at the Episcopal Church that's roughly across from Washington Trust. The market will be open from 9 am until noon on Fridays. (The other, Cross Mills Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 9 am until 1 pm across from the new Cross Mills fire station. Some people act like the two markets compete but we want them both to be successful.)

I have a preliminary list of vendors and it looks like everyone who was there last year will be back. I hate to start naming names for fear of overlooking someone ... but I can't resist listing some we visit every time we go to the market!
Browning Homestead (adding yummy gourmet pork this year!)
Burnside Acres (the farm of John Jackson)
Carolina Fiber & Fiction (some prior articles)
Carpenter's Gristmill (disclosure: Tom volunteers there during corn grinding)
Hannah's Alpacas (the kids come running to see the alpacas)
Ninigret Oysters (our Charlestown farmed oysters that are some of the best in RI)
One Love Farm (say "gelato"!)
Poblano Farm (great salsas)
Stoney Hill Cattle (cookout favorites!)

And there is a great list of new vendors that I'm looking forward to seeing. Here are a few: Carpenter's Farm, Great Harvest bakery, Local Catch (we have needed more seafood choices!), Provencal Bakery, Johnny's Barking Bakery (treats for the dogs), South County Flowers (they have attended on and off previously with some beautiful, and reasonably priced, flower arrangements).

I've been told that the organizers are working hard to set up special events, along the lines of those at the Richmond Farmers' Market. We look forward to seeing how that develops.

We will update and re-publish this article as we get more information.
