The Parks and Rec Department is planning ways for kids to keep busy this summer. Read on for the details.
Summer Day Camp
The Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department is offering the Ninigret Summer Camp for ages 5-12 from July 2nd
– August 3rd from 9 am until 4 pm each weekday.
There will be arts and crafts, sports, drama, exploring, learning, fun, special events and meeting new friends. Camp trips will be available at minimal additional cost. The camp is open to the first 100 residents and registration begins either online or in person at the Charlestown Town Hall in the Parks and Recreation Department through Friday, June 15th. Registration for non-residents begins Monday, June 18th.
The cost for the 5-week program is $250. To accommodate working parents, the time can be extended from 8 am until 5 pm for an additional $10 per day.
Two extended weeks are being offered: August 6 through 10 and August 13 through 17 at a additional cost of $100 per week.
There will also be a
Counselor-In-Training program offered for youth ages 13-15. They will need
to fill out an application and be interviewed.This a leadership program but does not guarantee a
position as a counselor next year. The cost is $175 plus the cost of trips.
The Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department is offering
Junior Golf Lessons at Timber Creek Driving Range in Westerly RI. This will be
held on four Tuesdays from July 10th through July 31st from 10-11 am for
ages 6-10 and 11-noon for ages 11-16. The fee is $125 which includes the four
one hour lessons, balls, water, snack, and green fees. The instructor is Lou
Toscano who is USGTF Certified Teaching Professional. Registration is limited
and can be done at the Recreation Department or online. If you have any

There will be a 5-day UK International Youth Soccer camp from July
16 –20 in Ninigret Park, divided into three age groups:
- 3 - 4 year-olds from 5 to 6 pm for $66,
- 5 - 6 year-olds from 6:30 to 8 pm for for $84 or
- 6 - 14 year-olds from 5 to 8 pm for $120.
Registration can be done online or in person in the Parks and Rec Dept. at Charlestown Town Hall.
Two sessions of 7 Swim Lessons each will be held at Phil and Ann’s Sunset Motel at 4043B Old Post Road,
Charlestown this summer.
Session I is June 27, July 2, 9, 11, 16, 18, 23
Session II is July 25, 30, August 1, 6, 8, 13, 15
Each session has three 30-minute periods for age and ability.
- 9:00am - 9:30am: Pre-School ages 3yrs - 4yrs
- 9:45am - 10:15am: Level I ages 5yrs & up
- 10:30am - 11:00am: Ages 2yrs - 6yrs - depending on ability
The cost is $40 per session. Pre-registration is necessary
and limited, contact Parks and Rec.
Archery Class

The instructor is Mark Spear the owner of Black Bear Archery Shop in Westerly – NFAA Master Coach and professional archer. The cost is $75. Like all the rest, contact Parks and Rec.
