Vote for me!

First Charlestown Declaration of Candidacy filed
By Will Collette

It figures that the first person to file his Declaration of Candidacy for Town Council is none other than Charlestown Citizens Alliance Steering Committee member and current Town Council President Boss Tom Gentz.

It'll be fun to see his reasons why Charlestown voters should give him a second term. Could it be his staunch advocacy for giving $398,000 in town taxpayer money away in the Y-Gate Scandal (watch him at tonight's Town Council meeting).

Or his fear-mongering claim that the federal government was about to take back Ninigret Park unless we give Fish and Wildlife federal overseer Charlie Vandemoer veto rights over town activities.

Or his championship of Planning Commission ordinances he never seems to be able to grasp. Or his rejection of a middle class tax break for Charlestown residents. Or his attacks against small businesses.

Or should we vote for him because he drives cool cars. Or because of his jocularity and bumbling management of Council business.

We'll see, now that he's made it official.

The period for filing Declarations of Candidacy began today and continues until 4 PM on Wednesday. On Thursday, Party endorsements get filed.
