Farmers markets join "speak out against hunger"

Speak Out Against Hunger
From the RI Community Food Bank

EDITOR'S NOTE: At present, none of Charlestown's Farmer's Markets are on the list as participants.

September is Hunger Action Month. Side by side with hunger relief agencies across the country, the Rhode Island Community Food Bank is urging the public to speak out against hunger in a very tangible way.

As a member of Feeding America, the national network of food banks, we know that hunger affects communities across the United States. In Rhode Island, our network of emergency food programs now feeds more than 65,000 people every month. One in three is a child under the age of 18.

The Paper Plate Campaign: Coming to a Farmers Market Near You!

The Food Bank is conducting a "Paper Plate Campaign" at Farmers Markets around the state of Rhode Island throughout September. We invite you to write your thoughts about the problem of hunger on the back of a paper plate. These plates will be hand-delivered to local legislators, posted on our Facebook or displayed at a public venue at the end of the month.

Drawing supplies will be available, and children are encouraged to participate. Paper plates will be provided.

Visit the Rhode Island Community Food Bank's booth at any of the following Farmers Markets and put your own thoughts about hunger on a paper plate. Let your voice be heard.
