“Fish for a Cause”

First annual Galilee Festival coming up this weekend

PROVIDENCE - The Town of Narragansett, the Department of Environmental Management, and the Rhode Island Saltwater Anglers Association are proud to announce that the First Annual Galilee Fishing for a Cause Tournament and Seafood Festival will be held on September 8 and 9 in the Port of Galilee.



The tournament and festival will celebrate and promote Rhode Island's recreational and commercial fishing industries, locally-harvested seafood and the Port of Galilee. Proceeds will be donated to Hasbro Children's Hospital, Narragansett Parks and Recreation Financial Aid Program, and the Jonnycake Center of Peacedale.

The Festival will feature local seafood and food vendors, artisans, music, music and education exhibits. Specific activities include a sea creature touch tank, tours of commercial fishing vessels and fish processing plants, a rock climbing wall and demonstrations on water safety skills. Boat Cake, Groove Axiom and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Music School are scheduled to perform. For the complete listing and times, please visit

The fishing tournament begins on Friday, September 7 at 5 p.m. Participants will be able to weigh in their catch on Saturday, September 8th from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm and on Sunday, September 9th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The leader board will be present at the weigh-in station. The weigh-in station is accessible by boat and by car. Winners will be determined by fish category and weight and awards will be presented at 3 p.m. on Sunday. Prizes include fishing charters, Sea Tow memberships, golfing, gift certificates and fishing equipment donated by local businesses. Juniors will receive trophies as well.

Tournament entry fees are as follows: Adults, $15.00 and Juniors (14 and under), $5.00. Tournament entry is available on the Galilee Fishing Tournament and Seafood Festival website and at many local bait and tackle shops.
