Concerns about storm debris
from Sandy
DEM news release

PROVIDENCE - The Department of
Environmental Management announces that effective immediately, Misquamicut
State Beach in Westerly, East Beach State Beach in Charlestown, and the
Charlestown Breachway Campground are closed due to public safety concerns. The
closures will remain in effect until further notice.
The Department has been advised to close these
facilities because the damages caused to buildings and structures at these
sites may represent a public safety threat. In addition to structural damages caused
by the hurricane, widespread erosion has occurred, access points leading to the
facilities have been washed away, and parking lots are full of storm-related
debris.
Access to the facilities will be allowed once public safety concerns have been addressed and the areas are deemed safe for public use.
