TOMORROW: Legislators host community forum on Saturday

Walsh and Rumsey will host community meeting in Charlestown on Saturday

(Charlestown) Rep. Donna Walsh (House District 36) and newly elected Senator Cathie Cool Rumsey will host a community meeting at the Cross Mills Public Library on Old Post Road in Charlestown on Saturday, January 5, from 10 AM to 12 noon.

Coffee and refreshments will be served.

Rep. Walsh and Senator-elect Cool Rumsey invite South County residents to attend what both legislators hope will be a continuing dialogue over the needs of southern Rhode Island and the state.

“We don’t plan to make any speeches or presentations,” said Rep. Walsh. “We’re more interested in hearing from residents what they see as the top priorities and needs of our community. I am especially interested in people’s views on job creation, economic development and the environment since I hold ranking positions on the House committees charged with taking the lead on those issues.”

Senator-elect Cathie Cool Rumsey said, “This meeting will be just a couple of days after I get sworn in. I hope to hit the ground running, and I can’t think of better motivation than to meet and talk with people about what’s going on in the community.”

Representative Walsh represents House District 36, which covers all of Charlestown and Block Island as well as parts of Westerly and South Kingstown.

Senator-elect Cool Rumsey represents Senate District 34, which covers Exeter, the northern half of Charlestown, Richmond, Hopkinton and a portion of West Greenwich.
