Pond, Parking Lot ...
What's The Difference?
Cars: Not Meant For Ice Skating
While most have been cursing this week’s
weather, one Woonsocket woman is grateful for these subfreezing temperatures.
According to police, the 52-year-old woman was attempting to turn right on to
what she thought was a road during her morning commute.
Something “went wrong,” causing her to drive down a
bank and then on to a frozen pond. Because Rhode Island has been as cold as the planet Hoth this
week, the ice was thick enough to support the car, and crews were able to tow
it off the ice without a problem.
A Birthday Card and a Half Birthday Suit
Two Narragansett women had odd approaches
dealing with law enforcement this week. A 32-year-old woman was pulled over for
suspected DUI and, when police asked for her license and registration, she reportedly handed him a
birthday card. Days earlier,
another woman was pulled over for the same thing.
When officers asked if they could search her
car, the 48-year-old woman exited her
car, spun around (nearly falling) and then allegedly flashed the officers. Unfortunately for them, both of their
methods failed and they were both arrested on charges of driving under the
influence.
Pepper Spray Incident at Bar Leads to Two
Arrests
It’s good to have a friend who’s got your
back. It’s not good to have a friend who, in the process of
getting your back, pepper sprays you in the face. Last weekend in North
Kingstown, a 22-year-old woman reportedly decided to take matters into her own
hands after watching her friend argue with another woman at a local bar.
According to reports, the woman (who police
said was intoxicated) went to her car, grabbed a can of pepper spray
and then proceeded to spray the two women. Unfortunately, the thing about pepper spray
(being a spray) is that it spreads. Several other patrons were hit with it and
had to be treated. One woman understandably took issue to being hit with the
pepper spray and allegedly tried to assault the culprit, threatening to kill
her.
The pepper spray assailant was charged with
disorderly conduct and three counts of assault. The disgruntled patron, who was
also allegedly intoxicated, was charged with disorderly conduct – after she
reportedly accused police officers of being child molesters.

Man Caught Drunk Driving After Leaving Where?
Often when police catch folks driving drunk,
they’re leaving a bar, a friend’s party or another social function. This past
week, police received a very different answer from a suspected drunk driver in
Middletown.
According to reports, the 42-year-old Tiverton man told
officers he had just left the hospital. Police were able to confirm the man had
indeed been at Newport Hospital seeking treatment for narcotics.
Hospital officials had reportedly advised the man not to drive. Perhaps he was
off to seek a second opinion?
