Cathie Rumsey gets new assignment

Cool Rumsey appointed to shared services commission

STATE HOUSE news release – Sen. Catherine Cool Rumsey has been appointed to the Joint Commission on Shared Municipal Services, President of the Senate M. Teresa Paiva Weed recently announced.

The permanent panel has been working since last year to help find ways for cities and towns to cut costs by sharing municipal services.

It was created by legislation in 2011 as a recommendation of a Senate panel that studied whether sharing municipal services would result in savings and what would be necessary for it to be implemented.

“Cities and towns have been stretched to their limits in recent years. I’m looking forward to being part of the effort to relieve some of the pressure by helping to develop ways they can get together, take advantage of economies of scale, and save some money on the services and resources they provide to citizens,” said Senator Cool Rumsey (D-Dist. 34, Charlestown, Exeter, Hopkinton, Richmond, West Greenwich).

Senator Cool Rumsey, who is serving her first term in the Senate, is also a member of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, as well as the Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee.
