Charlestown Parks and Recreation bringing great new stuff for you

Second year of the Northeast Skim Tour in Charlestown

The Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department will offer “Northeast Skim Tour” on Sunday, June 30th at the Charlestown Town Beach presented by Warm Winds Surf Shop . Registration for participants is at www.neskimtour.com. Observers can attend for free and your Progressive Charlestown staff really enjoyed it last year.

Put the Little Tykes in Gymnastics

The Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department will hold a second session of  Pre-School Gymnastics class run by R.I.S.E. Gymnastics of Coventry RI for ages 2 through 6 held at our Community/Senior Center in Ninigret Park from 9:30 to 10:30 am on Friday mornings starting May 24. The cost is $10 per class and no pre-registration is necessary.

Calling young actresses and actors! New this summer

The Charlestown Town Teens Theatre Series, for ages 14 through 17, will be run and directed by Anne Mulhall of LDI Casting. Class dates are July 14,17,21,24,28 and 31. The cost is $120 with a limit of 10 teens per class. There will be an emphasis on fun with monologues and scenes.

Anne Mulhall, the director of LDI, has extensive casting, film, television, theatre, commercials  and print. She has been a mentor for countless actors and filmmakers. Contact Anne by email for more information or to register.

Basketball Camp

Higher Learning Basketball at the Chariho high school has a new summer program. Directors Eric Simonelli, head coach of LaSalle Academy, and Sean Casey, former basketball coach have designed this training to improve players by teaching in a structured, but fun environment. The sessions will be June 25-28 (9 am to 3 pm) for students grades 2 through 8. The cost is $140 including a camp t-shirt. Players will be separated by ability. ZUMBA is back!

ZUMBA’s instructor, Sandy Gaccione, is back from maternity leave. Time to roll back into the Zumba groove on Monday nights at the Charlestown Community/Senior Center from 5:30-6:30 pm for $10 per class. Just show up with your Alexander Hamilton.

Yoga on the beach

Yoga hits the beach at Charlestown Town Beach beginning June 26 on Thursdays from 6:00 to 7:15 pm. Classes will run through September 4. Deidre Murphy is the instructor for this program and the cost is $10 per class. The class consists of basic vinyasa yoga offered to all levels of students, whether beginner or more experienced. Summer Soccer Camp

There will be a U.K. International Soccer Camp in Ninigret Park July 15 through 19. Times and costs are
3 to 4 years old: 9 to 10 am, $60
5 to 6 years old: 10:30 am to noon, $75
7 to-14 years old: 9 am noon, $115,
7 to-14 years old: 9 am to 3 pm, $160.

Summer Swim Lessons - Back for the third season

The first series is on Monday and Wednesday mornings July 10 through 29.
The second series is on Monday and Wednesday mornings August 5 through 21.
The cost is $50 per session per child. You can register your children in person at the Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department in town hall or online.

For first time swimmers ages 3-5 the classes will be held 11 am until noon at Phil and Ann’s Motel. An advanced class for ages 6 and older will be held at Little Ninigret Pond (in Ninigret Park) from 9  to 11 am.
