Chariho Rotary Club will dedicate funds raised at this year’s annual Italian Night Dinner on Tuesday to aid relief efforts in the wake of the devastating typhoon in the Philippines.

Proceeds will go to the purchase of two Shelter Box units. Each ShelterBox supplies an extended family with a tent and essential equipment to use while they are displaced or homeless.

ShelterBox, a Rotary International Project Partner, responds instantly following natural and other disasters by delivering boxes of aid to those who need it most.

ShelterBoxResponse Team members are already on the ground in the Philippines carrying out assessments in Cebu, Bohol and Tacloban. With 500 tents set to arrive on Wed. Nov. 13, ShelterBox aims to help up to 4,000 families and has launched a Typhoon Haiyan Emergency Appeal.

The Chariho Rotary Club Italian Night will be held on Tues., Nov. 19, at Richmond Country Club, 74 Sand Pond Road in Richmond. Seatings are available from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tickets to the dinner cost $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for children, and are available from any Chariho Rotarian or by contacting event chair Jeff Duscha at (401) 595-5837 or by email at jsduscha@washtrust.com.

Rotarians will both man the kitchen and serve tables at the popular event. Dinner is a choice of Spaghetti with Sausage or Meatballs or Dr. Dunn's Famous Linguine and Clam Sauce!

In addition to international project support, funds raised by The Rotary Club of Chariho are returned to our community in projects such as the Courtyard at Chariho Senior High School, annual scholarships for local students, to assist local food pantries, and support of programs at Wood River Health Services and The Arcadia Branch of the Ocean Community YMCA.

Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. In more than 160 countries worldwide, approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 30,000 Rotary clubs.

Rotary club membership represents a cross-section of the community's business and professional men and women. The world's Rotary clubs meet weekly and are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races, and creeds.

In our area, Chariho Rotary provides donations to multiple charitable causes, sponsors blood drives, provides volunteers at the RICAN food pantry, awards some $16,000 each year in scholarships, and most recently provided labor and funds to build the Chariho High School’s new courtyard.
