Curious about new sales tax exemption on artwork? Workshop this afternoon

Walsh tax relief law takes effect on December 1
From Rep. Donna Walsh
On Friday, November 22, RI Council for the Arts Randall Rosenbaum will conduct a workshop for artists and art gallery owners on changes that will exempt original works of art from Rhode Island’s 7% Sales Tax. The session will take place at the Cross Mills Library on Old Post Road (1A) in Charlestown from 4:00 to 5:30 PM.

The change in sales tax policy will take effect on December 1 and will apply to works of art, whatever the medium, provided they are original works that are produced and sold in Rhode Island.

Mr. Rosenbaum will describe the changes and answer questions about how these changes will work.

The new sales tax exemption for original works produced by Rhode Island artists was the result of legislation sponsored by Rep. Donna Walsh in the last session of the General Assembly. My legislation was adopted by the House and Senate and signed by the Governor as part of a package of measures designed to boost the Rhode Island economy and create jobs.

Representative Walsh represents House District 36, which covers all of Charlestown and Block Island as well as parts of Westerly and South Kingstown.
