the acclaimed international playwright Alan Acykbourn.
The show will be staged Nov. 14 to 16 and 21 to 23, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov 17 and 24 at 3 p.m. in the Robert E. Will Theatre, URI Fine Arts Center on the Kingston Campus. Originally a hit British comedy, How the Other Half Loves is a farce about the lives and loves of three couples at different stages in their marriages. It has retained its sharp wit and the unique concept of two family living rooms combined in one single set and two dinner parties held on two separate evenings, but happening at the same time on stage. Adultery, mistaken identity and mounting comic tension come together to create a crowd-pleasing and hysterical evening of top class theatre.
How the Other Half Loves is one of 77 plays written by Acykbourn. He has received numerous awards as a director and playwright, became the first British playwright to receive both Olivier and Tony Special Lifetime Achievement Awards and was knighted in 1997 for his services to the theatre.
At URI, Long-time Theatre Department Lecturer and Production Manager, Alan Hawkridge directs How The Other Half Loves. Hawkridge is a native of London, England who studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art.
Costume design is by guest artist Marilyn Slavatore, sets are by guest artist and URI alumnus Cheryl deWardener, lighting design by Senior Theatre Major Steve Wilson, and sound design by Guest Artist Mike Hyde.
