UPDATE: Parks and Recreation Plans - Things To Do

Our friends in the Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department keep giving us new activities to tempt you to get out of the house.

Here is the March update of the list, below the break.

  • NEW - Girls on the Run program

Girls On The Run is a 10 week program for 3rd through 5th grade girls that trains them to run a 5K while helping them deal with issues such as bullying, gossiping, and making good choices. The goal of the program is to help the girls complete a 5K and also learn to be joyful, healthy and confident.

Our local Girls On The Run spring program will start on March 18th at Richmond Elementary School. The group will meet on Tues and Thurs from 3:30 to 4:45 at the Richmond Elementary School. All girls are welcome and do not need to attend the host school. Scholarships are available. Find out more about the program here and register here.

  • NEW - Trip to America Skates

On Friday, March 7th, we'll be taking 5th through 8th graders on a trip to America Skates in Rumford (East Providence), RI. Our van will leave from Charlestown's Town Hall at 6:30 pm and return at 9:00 pm. The Cost is $27 for van transportation, admission and pizza. Registration is in the Charlestown Parks and Recreation office or online.

  • Ice Skating!

Don't forget our Town ice skating rink in Ninigret Park. It's open from 9 am until 5 pm. Bring your own skates but check the status on the Parks & Rec page first.

  • Quilting Class

A new Beginner Quilting Program is being offered at the Community/Senior Center in Ninigret Park. This is the perfect opportunity to learn how to quilt during this cold winter. This class will cover the basics from cutting fabrics to putting everything together.  It will be fun class and low stress so come and enjoy your own warm quilt with Jodi Frank our instructor.

The class will take place on two Saturdays, March 8th and March 22nd from 10 am until 2 pm.  You must have a sewing machine that you can bring to class. A material list will provided upon registration. The cost is $40. Register by stopping by the Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department office at Town Hall, 4540 South County Trail.
