CBO Predicts
Obamacare Will Cost $104 Billion Less Than Expected
Sorry to disappoint, but... |
Republicans just can’t catch a break on Obamacare. First, their claims that the
health care law is a job killer were blown out of the water.
Then, the White House announced that over 7 million Americans signed up for
coverage.
Not long
after that, a new poll revealed that more Americans support Obamacare
than oppose it. And the news just keeps getting worse for the GOP.
This time, it’s a report from the Congressional Budget Office.
The CBO reports
that Obamacare is costing less money and helping more people.
In what
is sure to cause Republicans to set their hair on fire, a new CBO report predicts
that Obamacare is going to cost a whopping $104 BILLION less than previously
expected. $5 billion of those savings are from this year alone.
By 2024,
the cost of the program will only be $1.38 trillion. But that’s not all. The
report also projects that President Obama’s signature law will cover 12 million
Americans this year.
If the
GOP had their way, these 12 million people would not have health insurance at
all.
Furthermore, the CBO report forecasts that the number of people who are
uninsured will drop from 42 million this year to 30 million by 2017.
The CBO
also has good news for children, which of course, is bad news for the GOP.
Approximately 7 million adults and children will be covered by Medicaid and the
Children’s Health Insurance Program this year.
11
million more are expected to sign up for Medicaid next year. And 12-13 million
more are expected to follow suit every year from 2016 to 2024. With that many
Americans obtaining coverage, it’s only a matter of time before the number of
uninsured drops to historic lows.
This is all bad
news for Republicans as Election Day draws nearer.
Unfortunately,
these numbers would have been significantly higher if Republican-controlled
states had chosen to expand their own Medicaid programs. Instead, the GOP
gleefully refused, choosing to punish their own constituents to show how much
they hate the first African- American President.
Such a
childish position is certain to cost Republicans votes on Election Day this
November. Indeed, the GOP is finding it even harder to make Obamacare an
election issue as than they did in 2010.
Since
then, GOP lies about the program have been thoroughly debunked although they’re
still desperately repeating them to anyone who is willing to be duped.
Americans have not only been getting jobs since it went into effect, Obamacare
has now given them health care too.
That’s far
more than Republicans have done for a citizenry that has been struggling to get
by. All the GOP has done is block jobs bills and attempt to repeal Obamacare
over 50 times. Not to mention the fact that they shut down the government and
threatened to plunge the nation into economic ruin all in an effort to take
health care away from millions.
But now,
the landmark health care law is a success. People are able to obtain affordable
health care coverage. The law is creating jobs. It’s making people healthier.
Rather than creating an apocalypse, the law is helping people and is only
gaining in popularity.
At this
point, Republicans would be taking a huge political risk to run against
Obamacare. And this latest CBO report only makes it riskier.
