VIDEO: Important Peeps® Stuff

It’s that time of year
By Will Collette

OK, so Easter is this Sunday and it wouldn’t be Easter without Peeps® frenzy. I’ve been trying to restrain myself, more or less successfully, from overdoing the Peeps® thing as I do every year, but in the last remaining days, there’s just a few things I need to get out there to Peeps® lovers everywhere.

Chocolate covered Peeps®. Yes, they exist and not only to they exist, but we have a local candy company that makes them. I went over to Hauser Chocolatier at 59 Tom Harvey Road in Westerly (the industrial park just down from the main Westerly Post Office, off Airport Road). There I found cute little baskets of chocolate-dipped Peeps® that I can’t wait to try out on family this Sunday.

Lots more, so keep reading...

Best Peeps® diorama in the world. For years, a number of newspapers around the country have sponsored contests for creative use of Peeps® in little displays called dioramas. My favorite has always been the one in the Washington Post. Their panel of judges made the hard choices among the nearly 1,000 entries they received, and you can see the winners and runners up by clicking here. The top winner is a very surprising and truly wonderful rendition of Dr. Martin Luther King’s March on Washington and the “I Have a Dream” speech.

Peeps® Trivia. There’s a lot of that going around. I found two especially good articles telling you all sorts of things about Peeps®, some of it interesting, some of it not so much. But if you are as devoted to Peeps® culture as I am, these two are a must read. Click here for Mental Floss’s “16 Delicious Facts about Peeps®” and then go to Huffington Post’s Here Are The Answers To Every Question You've Never Asked About Marshmallow Peeps®” by clicking here.

Union-made. In this day and age where unions are being beaten down, our much beloved marshmallow Peeps® are still proudly union-made. It’s no coincidence that as bosses gained the upper hand and as union strength declines, we have seen the drastic decline of the middle class and an end to the promise of a secure retirement. So eat Peeps®, brothers and sisters!

Even the NRA loves Peeps®. Despite that they’re union made. Watch this great video.
