When you think of fall, what is the first thing that comes to mind? For me, it’s not only the beautiful colors but also the inspiration of the season’s fruits and vegetables.

From cooking to decorating, fruits and vegetables play a huge part in our fall festivities.

On the weekends, apple picking has become one of the most popular activities this time of year. Last week, I ventured to a local orchard to gather my own bushel and have been enjoying them ever since.

While apples are famous for keeping doctors away, they are also a comfort food when baked with yummy ingredients such as brown sugar and cinnamon. For this recipe, I’ve combined all of those and added oatmeal for a warm and hearty breakfast. And it only took me about five minutes. Enjoy.

Slow-Cooker Oatmeal with Apples

Makes 6 servings

2 apples, sliced quarter of an inch thick
Third cup of raisins
Quarter cup of brown sugar

1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Pinch of salt

2 cups of oatmeal
2 cups of milk

2 cups of water

Place the apples, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in the bottom of a crock pot. Pour in the oatmeal, milk and water. Do not stir. Set crock pot on low and cook overnight for 8-9 hours.
