Walsh's record draws accolades from farmers and wide-ranging support
Rep. Donna Walsh (D, District 36) announced the decision by the Rhode Island Farm Bureau to honor her this year with a new award called “Friend of Farmers.”
This will be the third year in a row that the Farm Bureau has cited Rep. Walsh for her tangible achievements in the General Assembly to help to not only preserve family farms, but to help them grow and boost the state’s economy.
Among these achievements were changes to the state estate tax to ensure farms are assessed as farms. In the past, families have had to break up and sell off family farms when estate tax assessments were based on the value of the land as if it was going to be developed.
The “Friend of Farmers” award will be presented to Rep. Walsh on November 20.
In addition to this latest honor from the Farm Bureau, Rep. Walsh has been endorsed for re-election by the Sierra Club, Planned Parenthood, the National Association of Social Workers, Clean Water Action of Rhode Island, the Rhode Island Chapter of the National Organization for Women, the Young Democrats of Rhode Island and the Environmental Council of Rhode Island.
Representative Walsh proudly serves the residents of Block Island, Charlestown, Westerly and South Kingstown who comprise the 36th House District.
