WARWICK, RI – Congressmen Jim Langevin and David Cicilline today applauded the announcement by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Administration for Children and Families that approximately $3.05 billion in heating and home energy assistance funds will be made available nationwide through the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP).

"As the winter months approach, too many Rhode Island families will be left in the cold, forced to choose paying the rent or food bills over home heating costs that continue to skyrocket," said Congressman Jim Langevin, a strong supporter of the LIHEAP program. 

"I met with more than two dozen constituents today at the Harrington Hall shelter who are homeless or have struggled to find and keep affordable housing. Their stories remind me how important programs like LIHEAP are, and for their sake and for the sake of all Rhode Island families, I am thrilled that additional funding for heating assistance will be available this winter."

“In the coldest months of the year, no family should have to make the difficult choice between keeping their homes warm, or taking care of basic needs like paying bills or providing food for their children, which I will continue to be a strong supporter and advocate for the LIHEAP program,” said Congressman David Cicilline. 

“With this additional funding for heating and home energy assistance, many Rhode Island families will not be left in the cold and we can continue to provide essential aid to the most vulnerable among us.”
