It’s all Barbra Streisand’s fault

Senator James Inhofe, a notorious Bible-thumping climate change denier and author of the 2012 book, The Greatest Hoax: How the Global Warming Conspiracy Threatens Your Future, who will now be set to chair the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee because of the Republican takeover of the Senate, had some interesting words for a reporter years ago while attending a 2009 conference on climate change in Copenhagen.

Inhofe intended to be “a one-man truth squad” among thousands of diplomats, scientists, and reporters who attended the meeting.

Inhofe was usually mobbed by reporters—especially non-American journalists who found it newsworthy that a US senator would say such things. Judging from the smile on his mug, Inhofe enjoyed skunking up the party. After watching this for a few days, I could not resist the urge to engage.
As he strolled through the media center one afternoon, accompanied by several camera crews recording his pronouncements, I approached and politely asked if I could put a question to him. Sure, he said, in his folksy, avuncular manner.
Look around us, I said, spreading my arms wide. There are thousands of intelligent and well-meaning people in this gigantic conference center: scientists, heads of state, government officials, policy experts. They believe that climate change is a serious and pressing threat and that something must be done soon. Do you believe that they have all been fooled?
Yes, he said, grinning.
That these people who have traveled from all points of the globe to be here are victims of a well-orchestrated hoax?
Yes, he said, still smiling.
And just who could have perpetrated such a grand hoax, the reporter asked? Hollywood liberals and extreme environmentalists, the Senator responded. When the reporter pressed even harder for the Senator to be more specific, Inhofe responded: Barbra Streisand.

Yes, that’s right, Barbra Streisand. The two-time Academy Award winning, eight-time Grammy Award winning, 72 million album selling entertainment artist is a devilish mastermind who brought together all the world’s best and brightest scientists to Denmark to hold a conference on something that has been almost 100 years in the making.

I guess South Park was right, I guess we really do have a Mecha-Streisand on our hands!

Just recently, the New York Times published on their front page a report issued by thousands of climate change scientists who convened for a meeting in Lima, Peru on green-house gas emissions. Their findings:
[It] now may be impossible to prevent the temperature of the planet’s atmosphere from rising by 3.6 degrees Fahrenheit. According to a large body of scientific research, that is the tipping point at which the world will be locked into a near-term future of drought, food and water shortages, melting ice sheets, shrinking glaciers, rising sea levels and widespread flooding—events that could harm the world’s population and economy.
Inhofe proves that today’s conservatism is indistinguishable from mental illness, and he is happy to be the poster child.

“Sen Inhofe, new head of the Senate Environment Committee, singled me out for believing what 97% of climate scientists have already reported.”
