Volunteer to shovel out elderly and handicapped

When the blizzard dies down later on Tuesday, many Rhode Islanders who can’t shovel themselves out will need some help.
Fortunately, Serve Rhode Island has a plan.

The Storm Assistance for Elderly and Disabled (SAFE-D) program connects volunteers with people who need support and signing up is easy.

Go HERE, fill out the form and have a copy of your photo ID handy. Once you fill it out, someone from Serve Rhode Island will contact you and match you with a resident in need.

Don’t have a copy of your photo ID? You can take a picture of it with your smartphone.

Why do they need your ID? Serve Rhode Island wants to make sure anyone they send out to help others does not have a criminal record.

Once you’ve filled out the form and sent a copy of your license or ID, someone will contact you with a matched-up nearby resident to help.
