Every non-profit healthcare board needs an informaticist

Lisa Nelson Joins Wood River Health Services Board

Lisa Nelson of Westerly, a senior health informaticist[*] with Lantana Consulting Group, has joined the Board of Directors of Wood River Health Services.

A highly skilled health information technology (HIT) professional with over 20 years of experience in the development and use of HIT standards, she is also the founder of the Janie Appleseed initiative (JanieAppleseed.net), which seeks to build a network of individuals engaged in spreading health literacy to consumers in the information age.

Nelson received an M.S. in Medical Informatics at Northwestern University, an M.B.A. with a concentration in information systems from Regis University and a B.A. cum laude in Computer Science from University of Massachusetts Boston.


No stranger to Wood River Health, Nelson served previously on the Board from 2006 – 2009, and has volunteered for scouting and church groups and a s a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of RI.
Wood River Health Services is the Federally Qualified Community Health Center for southwestern Rhode Island, providing medical and dental care and social services to over 9,000 area residents.

The center also administers the area WIC (Women, Infants and Children) Nutrition Program, provides a nationally recognized chronic disease management program, has available onsite lab testing in cooperation with Westerly Hospital, including blood work, x-ray and mammography, and provides referrals for behavioral and mental health counseling.

Sliding scale payments are available to those who qualify.
