New storm estimates still inconsistent

Definitely less than Juno, but with some ice this time

The latest forecasts for Charlestown show the newest storm starting late tonight, mostly after midnight.

John Ghiorse's column in GoLocalProv notes that the storm will probably just be starting as guests are leaving Super Bowl parties. Charlestown Police caution people to make sure to use the designated driver system.

Ghiorse also says that the Monday morning commute may be pretty awful in some parts of the state and there will probably be school closures. He says the center of the storm will pass very closely to us and may actually go over those of us who live on the coast.

CPD also notes there will be a parking ban starting tonight at 6 PM and continuing until Tuesday at noon. That ought to put a crimp into party plans for tonight for some residents.

Now, for the forecasts for storm totals.

As usual, the most dire predictions come from Patch; note that they were very wrong on the totals for Juno.

The National Weather Service's forecast specifically for Charlestown calls for 1-3 inches tonight, 3-5 inches during daytime Monday and maybe half an inch Monday night. Ditto for the Weather Channel.

The good news is that there shouldn't be any shadows to scare the groundhog, meaning a prediction of a short winter. Right.
There may be some sleet and freezing rain mixed in. I hate sleet!

If there is much wet stuff mixed in, it will make shoveling and plowing more difficult. Of course, ice also greatly increases the chances of power outages as trees and branches break under the weight.
