Ninigret Park Ice Skating
The weather is cold enough that the rink in Ninigret Park is open daily from 9 am until 5 pm. Bring your own skates.
Our Parks and Recreation Department is looking for some volunteers to help maintain the ice rink. Please email them if you can help.
Ongoing Fitness classes
Tai-Chi classes are offered on Monday mornings at 10:30 am at the Senior/Community Center in Ninigret Park with a cost of $5 per class and no pre-registration.
Zumba classes are offered on Monday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at the Senior/Community Center in Ninigret Park with a cost of $5 per class and no pre-registration. Time to dance off the pounds!! Bring your friends; no experience necessary. The licensed instructor is Gwynne Milar.
Yoga classes are offered four day a week at the Senior/Community Center in Ninigret Park with a cost of $5 per class and no pre-registration: Monday at 6:45 pm, Tuesday at 8:30 am, Thursday at 9:00 am and Saturday at 8:30 AM. All levels are welcome.
Pilates and Strength Conditioning classes are offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 - 6:30 pm at the Senior/Community Center in Ninigret Park with a cost of $5 per class and no pre-registration. Please bring your own mat and water. The instructor is Jodi Frank.
Strength and Stability classes are offered on Wednesday mornings at 9:00 am at the Senior/Community Center in Ninigret Park with a cost of $5 per class and no pre-registration.
Art Class
A Youth Paint Night for ages 9 through 13 will be held on Friday evening, February 6, from 6 to 7:30 pm at the Charlestown Community/Senior Center. This will be a fun group instructional art class using acrylic paints. The cost is $20 which includes pizza, water and art supplies. Julia Heinzmann, Charlestown's Summer Camp Director and an enthusiastic senior majoring in Art at URI, will instruct the program.
Soup is often the most comforting and fortifying part of any menu. What tastes better than homemade chicken noodle soup when you're feeling under the weather? To make a great soup, you must first start with a flavorful stock. The class begins by making a vegetable and a protein stock as a base to build the soups. In this basic soup course , you will not only learn how to create a soup base, layer your flavors, and hot to make excellent soup for you family and friend, but how your homemade stocks can add flavors to your everyday cooking. The instructor is Malinda Coletta – an instructor for Professor Chef and an award winning cook.
The course will be held on Tuesday, February 10, at 7 pm in the Ninigret Park Community/Senior Center. The fee is $20. Stop by the Town Hall and register at the Parks & Recreation Department or register HERE.

Our Parks & Recreation Department is sponsoring a Bus Trip to watch the Championship Boston Red Sox vs. the Orioles on Thursday, June 25th.
The trip is open to residents and non-residents.
The bus will leave the Town Hall (4540 South County Trail) at 11 am and the game begins at 1:35 pm.
The cost of the trip is $90 per person for the game ticket, transportation and bus gratuity.
Participants must pre-register at the Parks and Rec office or by mail (more info here).

The 20th Rhode Island Frostbite Classic / Ice Bowl 2015 will be held on Saturday, February 14, at the Disc Golf Course in Ninigret Park. Weather or Not! No Wimps! No Whiners! No Cancellations!
The competition will be three Rounds of Singles, 54 Holes with one round each on the short, medium and long tees.
Entry Fee: $25 - Open, Advanced, Novice and Juniors (16 & under) plus a donation of at least 2 cans for the RI Food Bank - $3 will be given to the food bank for each pound collected.
Tee Sponsorship: $25 - Name on tee and listed in the map/scoreboard/program. 54 different tees.

Help kids prepare for babysitting
Babysitting is a popular money-making job for teens. Parks and Rec has organized a How to be a great Babysitter course.
Boys and Girls ages 11-16 are invited to participate in a fast paced, interactive and fun babysitting course. There is lots of "hands on" practice using adult and infant manikins.
The instructors are registered nurses who are certified through the American Heart Association as CPR and First Aid instructors. They have over 30 years of experience in healthcare and bring a unique and extensive level of expertise the classroom. The first 3 hours are focused on CPR, choking for the adult, child and infant. Student will also learn how use an AED. The second half focuses on learning elements of first aid, child safety, changing and feeding a baby and getting your babysitting business started.
