Harsh winter pushes back start dates for state recreational facilities
PROVIDENCE
- DEM is also advising campers that there will be a delay in the opening of
George Washington State Campground in Glocester and Burlingame State Campground
in Charlestown due to the remaining snow cover, wet conditions, and the
inability to provide potable water at the campgrounds.
George Washington
campground facilities are expected to open on April 18, and Burlingame State
Campground is scheduled to open on April 24.
The golf course supervisor has determined that current conditions at the Goddard Park course are not conducive to it being played on at the present time, and that doing so would be detrimental to the golf course. The continued presence of snow on the course, along with wet conditions, has temporarily made the course unplayable for golfing.
DEM's Division of Parks and Recreation staff will reassess the condition of the golf course in about two weeks to determine an opening date for the facility.
