Plan ahead for this fantastic paddling adventure

Advanced Notice: Summer Bioluminescent Paddles

Summer paddling tours on a Charlestown salt pond among glowing comb jellyfish have been the most popular events ever for the Wood-Pawcatuck Watershed Association. This year's tours are open for early registration.

Learn more below the break.

WPWA and the US Fish and Wildlife National Wildlife Refuge System are partnering to provide Bioluminescent paddles on a salt pond in Charlestown, RI. In the summer bioluminescent comb jellyfish make their way into coastal waters as the temperature warms up. On a dark, warm summer night they can often be found near the surface of the water where they are easily disturbed. Paddlers will be delighted by the glow emitted by these amazing creatures with every stroke of their paddle. Because of the popularity of this event we will offer it on 4 different nights this year. Please sign up for the night you want. Space is limited.

Dress for the weather. We will be paddling in the dark so headlamps or flashlights are a good idea. Bring your own boat or use one of WPWA's.

Four dates are being offered:
Tuesday Aug. 18,
Wednesday, Aug. 19,
Thursday Aug. 20,
Friday Aug. 21, 2015.

All will be from 7:30 to 9:30 pm

WPWA Member Price: $10 per person Non-Member Price: $20 per person

A limited number of single person 9 foot kayaks are available for this event at a price of $20 for WPWA members or $25 for non-members. Boats may be reserved when you register for the event. To Register go to www.wpwa.org/events.php.
