Breaking news - Westerly Town Manager resigns

Michelle Buck resigns, says Copar scandal impairs her ability to do her job
By Will Collette

Dale Faulkner's headline article in today's Westerly Sun reports that Westerly Town Manager has resigned and that the Westerly Town Council has accepted her resignation.

Buck had offered to stay on to smooth the transition, but on a sharply divided vote, the Council decided to decline her offer. They passed a second motion allowing her to stay on at least until they can hold an Executive Session to figure out what to do next.

Buck cited the unfolding Copar Quarry scandal as the reason for her resignation. During the sordid mess that embroiled virtually all of Westerly town government, as well as Charlestown's and, to a lesser degree, Richmond, Buck was in up to her eyeballs. Read Dale's article for more detail.

I am working on a piece that summarizes and gives context to the outstanding investigative reporting being done by Dale Faulkner on Copar, the shady Connecticut company that took over a large quarry in Bradford on the Charlestown town line, as well as another site in Charlestown itself and a third in Richmond at the site of the proposed Richmond Commons.

Copar continues to operate but under the name of Armetta Sand and Stone LLC, named after the ex-convict Phil Armetta who financed the operation.
