URI Theatre presents Shakespeare’s “As You Like It”

KINGSTON, R.I. –The University of Rhode Island Theatre Department is proud to announce the opening of “As You Like It,” by William Shakespeare.

Shakespeare’s pastoral comedy was first published in 1623 and remains a favorite among modern audiences, having been adapted for radio, film and musical theatre. The play centers on Rosalind, who flees persecution in her uncle’s court while accompanied by her cousin Celia and Touchstone, the court Jester, to find safety and love in the Forest of Arden. 

“As You Like It” will run April 16 through 18 and April 23 through 25 at 7:30 p.m., with additional showings April 19 and 26, at 3 p.m. in J Studio of the URI Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road on the Kingston Campus. General admission is $20, tickets cost $15 for seniors, URI faculty and staff, and $12 for students. Tickets can be purchased online at Tickets or by calling (401) 874-5843.




Guest artist Alan Hawkridge (“How the Other Half Loves,” “The Taming of the Shrew,” “Buried Child,” “Amadeus”) directs the URI production, costume design is by David T. Howard, URI associate professor of Theatre. Set design is by URI associate professor Christian Wittwer, lighting design is by Marc Tiberiis II (‘14) and sound design is by guest artist Mike Hyde.
