Little Nini Pond Fishing Derby

Kids ages 3 through 15 will have their own fishing derby with the free 19th Annual Roger P. Quillen Fishing Derby on Friday, May 8 from 5 to 6 pm at the little Ninigret Pond located in Ninigret Park. Please bring your own poles, bait will be provided. Various prizes will be awarded. No pre-registration is necessary. This event is sponsored by the Department of Environmental Management of Rhode Island and Breachway Bait and Tackle and Del’s Lemonade.

Summer Day Camp

Registration for the Ninigret Park summer camps will start May 4 but start planning for it now because it will fill up fast!

The Charlestown Parks and Recreation Department is offering the Ninigret Summer Camp for ages 5-12  from June 29 to July 31 from 9 am until 4 pm each weekday. 

The cost for the 5-week program is $275 ($300 for non-residents). To accommodate working parents, the time can be extended from 8 am until 5 pm for an additional $10 per hour ($20 for the full time period).

Two extended weeks are being offered: August 3 through 7 and August 10 through 14 at a additional cost of $100 per week. 

Camp Counselor-In-Training program

There will also be a Counselor-In-Training program offered June 29 through August 14 from 9 am until 4 pm for youth ages 13-15. The cost is $300 and includes a trip to Lake Compounce in Bristol, CT at the completion of the program. This program will provide leadership experience, including CPR, First Aid certification, trips, speakers, and additional materials and ideas to be used as resources for the youth in their future.

Tiny Tots Camp

New this summer is a Tiny Tots program for ages 3 & 4 for children that are potty trained. The program will be on June 29 through August 14 from 9 am until noon at Ninigret Park.The cost is $100 per week ($125 per week for non-residents) and is limited to 15 tiny tots.This camp will be a fun experience for the little ones with arts and crafts, games, swim time and many fun activities and special events.
