While speaking in Greenville, South Carolina on Friday, the
Republican presidential legacy candidate
was asked about the horrible shooting that occurred at a community college in
Oregon. This is when he responded with, “Look, stuff happens.”
Now, not only has he defended his remarks because his ego is
apparently too large to let him admit he was wrong to say that, but he used an
example that proves he is a giant, blubbering hypocrite.
Bush decided to use the example of a child drowning in a pool,
because everyone likes that imagery, right? He said:
“Tragedies… a child drowned in a pool and the impulse is to pass a law that puts fencing around pools. Well it may not change it. Or you have a car accident and the impulse is to pass a law that deals with that unique event. And the cumulative effect of this is, in some cases, you don’t solve the problem by passing the law, and you’re imposing on large numbers of people burdens that make it harder for our economy to grow, make it hard to protect liberty.”
Okay, first of all. Yes, if there is a defect in a car that
makes it cause an accident, there are actions taken to fix the problem:
recalls, etc. Secondly, could he be more obvious in his pandering to gun
voters? “Liberty” — how about people’s “liberty” to stay alive. You can’t have
“liberty” if you’re dead from yet another mass shooting that we ignore.
Let’s look at the pool example, though. Bush claims you don’t
just go and pass a law putting fencing around pools when a child drowns. One
HUGE problem with that example — that’s EXACTLY what he did as governor of Florida in 2000.
He
signed a pool safety bill that passed 109-8 in the Florida House. It was a bill that required pool owners to
choose a way to keep unsupervised children from falling into the water —
including a fence that had to be at least four feet high, according to the law.
Bush is a man who knew that signing a pool safety law would
prevent more children from falling into pools and drowning. Yet, now, in his
apparent memory loss, he doesn’t think that would work. Just like he doesn’t
think gun safety laws would work.
He’s even the jerk who signed the “Stand Your Ground” law
that has led to an increase in gun violence in Florida, as the law legalizes
murder in many cases.
Bush is not only a hypocrite, but his language is dangerous. He
panders to his extreme gun-toting voting base, while ignoring facts and
reality. He needs to be kept as far away from the Oval Office as possible. The
LAST thing we need is another Bush as president.
