STATE HOUSE — Sen. V.
Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown, New Shoreham) was honored
recently by the Rhode Island Farm Bureau for her continuing dedication to the
organization.
The bureau presented
Senator Sosnowski with its Navigator award, which was created to honor state
legislators and officials who have been instrumental in helping the
organization deal with and address concerns about government regulations and
procedures.
“We created the award
for those individuals who strongly support Rhode Island farms,” said Lyn
Spinella, executive director of the Rhode Island Farm Bureau. “And Senator
Sosnowski is our biggest champion.”
Senator Sosnowski and
her husband Mike have owned and operated an organic farm in West Kingston for
33 years. They raise livestock, including sheep and turkeys, and grow
vegetables, fruits, Christmas trees, flowers, hay, and native Rhode Island flint
corn for jonnycake meal on about 60 acres.
“I am deeply touched
that the Rhode Island Farm Bureau chose to honor me with this award,” said
Senator Sosnowski. “I will continue to do all I can in the State Senate to help
Rhode Island farms not only survive, but thrive and prosper.”
