Wood River Health Services staff has been helping dental assistant Kendall Davis, who is also a sergeant in the Connecticut Army National Guard’s 1109th TASMG out of Groton, to send a little comfort to her unit, which deployed to the Middle East recently.

Davis, who is expecting her first child and could not deploy, returned from a yearlong deployment in Kuwait in 2013 and was keenly aware of the lift in spirits that comes with any care package from home.

Community Resource Specialists.

“Knowing anyone back home cares enough to send anything is definitely a morale booster more than anyone would know,” Davis wrote in a letter to staff seeking donations of hygiene products and holiday knick-knacks. “The feeling you are still thought of while being in that type of environment and away from loved ones, I cannot stress enough how it affects soldiers in a positive way.”

David sent the first packages from the health center staff in mid-December to reach the unit in time for Christmas, but is collecting until the end of December to send additional packages.

Contributions from the public are welcome and can be dropped off at the health center, at 823 Main Street in Hope Valley.
