Senator Sosnowski secures legislative grant for Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale

But no more for Charlestown charities

EDITOR’S NOTE: Sue Sosnowski and former state Rep. Donna Walsh were great at getting strategic help for area non-profits. But after Walsh’s upset defeat to radical Libertarian-Republican Blake Filippi (R-Lincoln/Providence or somewhere else) in 2004, Charlestown charities are cut off from such aid.

Filippi says he doesn’t believe in legislative grants, though his colleague, the equally rabid Tea Partier Rep. Doreen Costa, is going for the gusto, seeking a $4 MILLION state grant for the Quonset Air Museum. That's a change from Costa's position in 2013 when she wanted the legislative grant program abolished.

I suspect Flip would flip on his “principle” if he was told to do so by his patrons, the Charlestown Citizens Alliance for something they care about (e.g. fixing up the Quonnie Grange or a bike path). – W. Collette

STATE HOUSE — Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown, New Shoreham) has presented a legislative grant for $2,500 to the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale. The grant money will be used to purchase food for the organization’s food pantry.

“The Jonnycake Center works tirelessly to help feed the hungry and provide other valuable assistance to families in the community,” said Senator Sosnowski. “I’m proud to be able to help them by securing this grant money.”

The mission of the Jonnycake Center of Peace Dale is to improve the quality of life for individuals and families by providing comprehensive assistance to those in need of food, clothing, and household items and through individual and systemic advocacy for their clients.
