Trump celebrates Black History Month

Shows that he has no clue whatsoever about Black History.

Today is the start of Black History Month. Donald Trump marked the day with a meeting where he held forth for a minute or two about his version of black history before launching off into a tirade about CNN. But in that brief moment when Trump was on point, he shows what a jerk he is on the subject of black history.

An example: “Frederick Douglass is an example of somebody who has done an amazing job that is being recognized more and more, I noticed." - Trump at a meeting with black Republicans, Feb. 1, 2017.

Frederick Douglass is one of America's most renowned historical figures best known for his constant advocacy for the abolition of slavery in the years leading up to the Civil War. He was America's leading 19th century voice for justice and equality.

Contrary to Trump's apparent belief that he is a contemporary, Douglass died in 1895.

One of Frederick Douglass's most-quoted remarks ring true for today:

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. 

Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. 

They want rain without thunder and lightning. 

They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters.

Douglass also said this about immigration. I think it's fair to say Trump was not briefed on this:

There are such things in the world as human rights. They rest upon no conventional foundation, but are external, universal, and indestructible. Among these, is the right of locomotion; the right of migration; the right which belongs to no particular race, but belongs alike to all and to all alike.
