...and our new exhibit has a lot to say! Mystic Aquarium
recently opened, "Our Blue Park" - a gallery exhibit
display dedicated to the first marine national monument in the
Atlantic Ocean. Located in the mezzanine leading to our Foxwoods Marine Theater,
the exhibit takes guests on a photographic journey of the Northeast
Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument and seeks to connect
with adults and children alike to raise awareness about conservation
both locally and globally.

"I hope the exhibit creates such a feeling for each
of our guests - revealing the otherwise hidden natural geological and
biological treasures at and beneath the surface," said Dr. Peter
Auster, Mystic Aquarium's senior research scientist who was
instrumental in providing the scientific rationale for conservation
of the area. "Even for those who will never go there; knowing
that such a place exists as part of our collection of wild places
evokes a sense of national pride and stewardship."

Animal Spotlight: Garden
Eel
This cool creature burrows itself into the sand tail
first; using mucus from its body as a cement to keep that sand from
collapsing. Garden eels generally face the current, allowing them to
catch zooplankton as it flows past.
