Weather worst case scenarios

Hard times ahead for the Gulf

National Hurricane Center's forecast as of this morning for Harvey's
landfall tonight through next Wednesday.
As we watch Hurricane Harvey grow in strength prior to hitting the Texas coastline, my best wishes go out to Charlestown's ill-treated former Town Administrator Bill DiLibero.

Bill is the City Manager for Beeville, Texas which is right in the bulls-eye for Harvey's expected landfall as a Category 3 hurricane.

Beeville has a population of 13,250 and is the county seat for Bee County which is noted for - what else? - bees and honey.

Fortunately, Beeville is not directly on the coast where they would get hammered by storm surge. But they are expected to receive powerful winds and not less than 30 inches of rain as Harvey is expected to stall and linger right above them.

Bill learned a lot about disaster management during his tenure here in Charlestown, prior to his ouster in April 2012. In fact, he just sent me an e-mail noting that he dealt with Hurricane Irene while here in Charlestown six years ago this weekend.

He was the target of one of the most intensive personal campaigns in Charlestown's political history - here at Progressive Charlestown we called it the "Kill Bill Campaign."

It was run by the Charlestown Citizens Alliance (CCA Party) and focused on DiLibero's inability to be a good and proper "Yes Man," unlike the guy the town chose as his replacement.

If you wish to take a walk down memory lane, here's a wrap-up of the whole Kill Bill Campaign by my colleague Tom Ferrio.

I sent Bill an e-mail wishing him well and hoping that he and Beeville will be able to ride out Harvey. They are all in for a rough ride over the next few days.
