The University of Rhode Island Theatre Department will stage
performances of Eurydice,” by Sarah Ruhl, as part of the URI Honors
Colloquium investigation of “Origins: Life, the Universe and Everything,”
beginning October 12.
Ruhl’s tender-hearted comedy is a two-time Pulitzer Prize
finalist and a Tony Award nominee. The play explores the mythological Greek
story of Orpheus and his wife, Eurydice.
Told through Eurydice’s unique perspective, we
experience her life in the “overworld,” her tragic descent to the “underworld,”
and the challenges, beauties, and questions that both worlds provide.
Performances will be held from Oct. 12 through Oct. 14 and Oct. 19 through Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m., with additional performances Oct. 15 and Oct. 22 at 2 p.m. in J Studio of the URI Fine Arts Center, 105 Upper College Road, on the Kingston Campus.
General Admission is $20, tickets for seniors, URI faculty, staff and students are $15. To purchase tickets online, visit web.uri.edu/theatre, or call (401) 874-5843.
The New York Times described Eurydice as
“rhapsodically beautiful. A weird and wonderful new play – an inexpressibly
moving theatrical fable about love, loss and the pleasures and pains of
memory.”
