Charlestown charities win grants from real estate group

RICAN, Neighbors Helping Neighbors get support
By Will Collette

PictureTwo fine Charlestown charities were awarded grants from The Realtor Foundation of Rhode Island. Neighbors Helping Neighbors, founded by St. Andrews Episcopal Church and RI-CAN both received $2,500 grants.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors RI  plans to use its funding to buy materials to provide no-cost home repairs for qualifying low-income homeowners.

Rhode Island Center Assisting Those in Need (RICAN) plans to use its $2500 grant for rental, utility and possibly mortgage assistance for low-income residents.

When you are thinking about alternative Christmas gifts or end-of-year tax-deductible donations, these are two good candidates for your money.

The Realtors also made four additional grants:

Rebuilding Together Greater Newport- The organization received $2500 to rehabilitate homes for low-income and disabled homeowners;

Books are Wings  A disbursement of $2500 will put free books into the hands of children from birth to middle school;

Boys & Girls Club of Warwick – Foundation funds of $1350 will help provide memberships and monthly fees for those who cannot afford services;

Special Olympics Rhode Island, Inc. – A Foundation grant of $5000 will support the organization’s 50th Annual State Summer Games in June 2018.
