Every year, Mystic Aquarium sends a penguin trainer to South Africa to help our friends at SANCCOB in their African penguin chick bolstering program. This year, Senior Trainer Josh Davis made the trek to Cape Town, South Africa, making this his third trip to the center as part of our partnership with the program. Animal Spotlight: Ziggy Star

Most guests who visit the Aquarium know Ziggy Star, a Northern fur seal that has a neurological condition affecting her ability to process images correctly and coordinate her movements. As a result, it was determined that she could not survive in the wild and found a forever home here at the Aquarium. Ziggy recently underwent groundbreaking brain surgery as a result of complications from her condition. We are proud to announce that several weeks post-op, Ziggy is doing extremely well and has lived up to her name in becoming a Facebook Watch star!
